World of Warcraft actually uses dwarves in a variety of other roles, such as Brann Bronzebeard who is an archeologist extraordinaire (in the same way Indiana Jones is), the featured dwarf in all the cinematics for the game is a leather-wearing hunter with a pet bear and a rifle as opposed to the usual mailed warrior with an axe, in Warcraft III, as much rpg as rts, the dwarves are ranged fighers only, not melee, plus there’s the Wildhammer dwarves who don’t mine or live underground but spend their time riding griffins across the sky.
